How to Change a Wheel Bearing Hub Assembly?
1. Step 1
1. Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts by turning them 1/4 turn counterclockwise using a tire wrench.
2. Step 2
Place wheel blocks in front of the front wheels and raise the rear of the vehicle onto jack stands. Lift up on the rear jack point behind the trunk and place jack stands underneath the rear pinch welds on your vehicle. Then, lower the vehicle onto the jack stands.
3. Step 3
Continue removing the lug nuts and lift the wheel off the hub assembly.
4. Step 4
Hit the outside of the brake drum assembly with a hammer to loosen it from the inner drum and pull the outer drum off.
5. Step 5
Loosen and remove the center hub retaining nut with a socket wrench.
6. Step 6
Remove the hub nut and thrust washer (which is behind the hub nut).
7. Step 7
Slide the wheel bearing hub assembly off the spindle and slide the new wheel bearing hub assembly onto the spindle.
8. Step 8
Replace the thrust washer, hub nut and brake drum. Assembly is the reverse of dis-assembly.
