GENERAL QUESTIONS

Q. Where can the tiles be used?

A. Practically any solid, even (not bumpy) surface e.g. courtyards, balconies, patios, porches, roof tops, hot tub surrounds, pool surrounds, garden paths, boat decks, gazebos, sun rooms, basements…..anywhere you would like a beautiful wood deck or floor.

Q: If the tiles are not glued or fixed to the floor, then what stops them from moving?

A. The tiles have inbuilt tabs on all sides which lock securely to the adjacent tiles so they cannot move once laid.

Q: Can the tiles be used in extremely cold conditions?

A. The tiles are specifically chosen for low water absorption properties to minimize the danger of cracking in freeze/thaw situations. For the plastic base, we use a polymer mix which consists mainly of polyethylene with some polypropylene added for extra stiffness. Polyethylene can be used extremely cold conditions without becoming excessively brittle.

Q. Can they be used in extremely hot locations?

A. The polyethylene base can withstand temperatures up to 60 degrees C without any problem.

Q. Are the tiles affected by water or heavy rainfall?

A. Due to the gaps between the tiles, any water drains away quickly and freely via the open plastic mesh base underneath the slats or the tiles. No water remains trapped or in extended contact with the wood.

Q. What is the lifetime I can expect from the deck?

A. Although the warranty period extends for 3 years from the date of purchase, you can expect lifetime of enjoyment from an interlocking tile deck.

Q. Are the tiles resistant to fire?

A. Although the plastic base is not fire resistant, the tiles can be used around barbeque areas provided normal precautions are observed against hot coals or burning embers falling on the tiles.

WHERE CAN THE TILES BE USED?

Q. Can the tiles be laid directly on bare earth?

A. We do not recommend laying the interlocking tile range on bare earth.

Q. Can I lay the tiles on a conventional deck sub frame across wood sleepers?

A. The tiles are not designed to be laid on bearers. They must be laid on a solid surface.

Q. Can I use the tiles indoors?

A. Certainly. However you should take care that if any crumbs or other food particles fall in the gaps between the wood slats, they are vacuumed away promptly.

Q. Can the tiles be laid over an existing weathered wood deck?

A. Provided the surface and supporting framework are structurally sound and the surface is even, the tiles are an ideal and cost effective way to bring an existing deck back to its former glory.

Q. Can the tiles be laid directly on rooftops covered with a rubber or bituminous membrane?

A. The pressure on the tile base is distributed in such a way that no damage to membranes will normally occur. However if you wish to take further precautions, we suggest laying down an additional membrane or EPDM sheet before the tiles are laid.

Q. Can the tiles be laid on a sloping roof deck?

A. If the slope is not so great that you can actually walk on it, then the tiles could satisfactorily be laid. Some slope is ideal as it allows water to drain freely away.

INSTALLATION

Q What tools are required?

A. With our interlocking tile range of tiles, you do not need any special tools, adhesives or grout to lay the tiles. you could fill any remaining gaps with some suitable landscaping material such as medium sized river pebbles.

Q. What skills do I need to install the tiles?

A. If you played with Lego ® as a child, then you will find laying the tiles just as easy. The tiles lock securely and precisely in place with just a gentle push. Alignment of the tiles is automatic so you just extend the deck in whichever direction you want without any alignment problems.

Q. Is any kind of underlayment or special surface preparation required?

A. No, provided the surface is as even as possible with no hollows or bumps.

Q: What do I do about corners or curved areas?

A. Unless you wish to cut the tiles with a wet saw, the easiest solution is to cut a wood or WPC deck tile to fit odd shapes etc. or you could fill any remaining gaps with some suitable landscaping material such as medium sized river pebbles.

Q. Can I use the tiles on steps or stairs?

A. We don't recommend using the tiles for steps or stairs.

Q. How level does the surface beneath the deck tiles have to be?

A. interlocking Decking Tiles need to be laid on smooth surface which will not allow them to "rock".

Q. How soon can I use the deck after installation?

A. You can use your new deck immediately.
